PERFORMANCE BACKGROUND
Having been interested in music from an early age I learned to play the trumpet at school for the school band and passed grade 1 at the age of 11. In my spare time I would play any instrument I could get my hands on including keyboards, harmonica and melodica. I took up the guitar at the age of 13. I was self taught and my natural ear for music and dedication for the instrument meant that from the age of 15 I began performing at school assemblies, working men’s clubs and pubs.
From then until the present time I continued to practice hard and have always played in bands, duos and trios. A full musical performance history is available on request, from my first duo in the Royal Navy in which we would play for the officers on board ship and ashore in pubs and clubs, to my current band, Resonate; a successful local covers band, specialising in rock, blues and popular music.
MY OWN COMPOSITIONS
Here are some examples of my own compositions and playing technique:
My Blues
Sunset Blues
Calm Before the Storm
Late Night Samba
GUITAR TEACHING
Having been approached many times for tips and tuition by people who had heard me play, I decided to pass on my skills by becoming a guitar teacher.
Having always been self taught I decided to gain my grade 5 theory of music and RGT grade 5 music performance. This enhanced the knowledge I had gained through experience and improved my ability to read and understand musical notation.
I have since registered with RGT as a tutor and have been successful in teaching a range of pupils, young and old, from beginner to intermediate, including taking some through RGT grades.
